Proteins whose folding must occur in the membrane, such as integral membrane proteins, need to be translated within the organelle so they can dock with the membrane in the folding process. They often have to be embedded with a surface on the inner face of the organelle membrane. These proteins cannot be synthesized in the cytoplasm and then exported to the organelle, as the folding environment of the cytoplasm would probably produce an incorrect fold.
